A political persuasion chatbot holds a conversation designed to shift a person's political preference.
Understanding the concern
Unlike a fixed campaign poster, a chatbot can answer objections and choose its next argument based on the reply. Research experiments have found changes in candidate preferences after such conversations. That makes disclosure important: people should know when they are speaking with a campaign tool and whom it represents.
A measured shift in an experimental survey is not the same as a changed ballot or an altered election. Accuracy also matters because persuasive explanations can include false claims. The public question is how to preserve informed choice when political advocacy becomes interactive and cheap to repeat at large scale.
